Terrorists Kill babies for sport [Nov. 10th, 2004|03:00 pm]
Two stories for the price of one this time.

1)I've stopped locking up my bike. The lock is broken and the bike sucks. I came out of econ today and some guy was riding around on my bike.
me: "that's my bike."
guy: "I was just checking it out."
me: "ok"
guy: "it kind of sucks. the brakes don't work at all."
me: "and the tires are flat"

I think he was maybe going to take it but then decided it sucked so bad he didn't even want it. But then again maybe he just likes to 'check out' other people's bikes and inform them of any potential problems.

2)My FCE teacher took a break today and let the TA teach. She is apparently the mother of a toddler. The lesson today was on parenting. This is pretty much an exact quote: "When you become a parent there is a whole new set of things you have to worry about, like are the terrorists going to hurt my child?" She brings up a good point, I don't know how anyone could in good conscience bring a child into this terror filled world where we have to watch our backs every second of the day and live in fear of the multitude of terrorists that lurk in the shadows just waiting to murder babies.

I hope Leon is ok [Nov. 6th, 2004|08:54 am]
My phone rang at 8:30 this morning. I tried to lean really far out of my bed to get it but merely succeeded in knocking it onto the ground. I then scrambled down my desk to grab the receiver, nearly killing myself.

(Black Woman's Voice): Hello?
Me(In a very froggy voice): hey
Woman: What's wrong with you?
Me: I'm sick
Woman: What was you doin'?
Me: I was sleeping.
Woman: Is you still in the hospital?
Me: Yeah
Me: Wait...What?
Me: I think you have the wrong number.
Woman: Is you Leon?
Me: No, this is Alan.
Woman: Oh, I thought you was Leon.

Stick it in the dirt [Oct. 26th, 2004|12:39 am]
[Current Mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

Camping this weekend was really great. It was nice to get away for awhile particularly since I don't ever go on Vacations with the fam anymore. It felt good to be out in the woods, cooking Brauts over a fire, and bonding with Scott and Andu. See Andu's journal for pictures and a brief synopsis.
So I somehow managed to talk to like 5 people today that I haven't talked to in weeks(or years in a couple cases). Really weird that it happened all today. It's fun to reminisce. It's gets sad if you do it too often but it is nice to go back and think about all the people you've known and the fun experiences you had during your life. It kinda of puts things in perspective. Also, I think I am going to go to the UofM/MSU game this weekend in Ann Arbor. That should be fun. I'll do my best to promote good sportsmanship and hope to well represent Michigan State.
I tried to shave today since I hadn't shaved since Wednesday of last week(it's against the rules to shave while camping). My electric razor is apparently broken and appears to be unfixable so I am going to be hairy for sometime until I get a razor. Just warning you.

I wear FUBU and you should too [Oct. 20th, 2004|02:50 pm]
[Current Mood |goodgood]
[Current Music |Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta]

My FCE class has been very interesting, to say the least. Today they were working on the roof above our classroom. It was impossible to hear anything the teacher said and about 10 minutes into class a piece of one of the sprinklers on the ceiling fell and hit some girl. The teacher said we had a lot to cover so she continued class but most people left anyways and after another 10 minutes or so of falling debris(I had to keep wiping pieces of the ceiling off my notebook) she cancelled class. I wore my new FUBU sweatshirt today and I'd say it went over very well. Not sure why I had been so listless, but I've been feeling really good lately and with me,Scott, and Andu's camping trip coming up this weekend things are only looking up.

Yep Yep [Oct. 15th, 2004|02:39 pm]
I actually went to class this morning. I don't think we ended up finishing Cool As Ice last night which should definitely be a crime. I probably shouldn't have punched Jon(at least not as much or as hard as I did)but he did tell me to do it. In other news Brett really sucks at scaring people.

I like Braut Burgers, does that count? [Oct. 5th, 2004|02:50 pm]
What do you like? What do you like to do? These seem like fairly simple questions. Most people would not have any problem answering them. I however when faced with such a question just sit there, unable to answer. What do I like to do? The only thing I can come up with is play tennis and which I did in high school and not all that well and I hardly do anymore. There's gotta be more than that. I also like to sleep, but that's because I'm tired and it's just out of neccessity, that can't really be considered an activity. I kinda like to play video games. These are more of a diversion than anything else and are just as likely to make me angry as they are to make me happy. Reading is good, I don't mind reading. I apparently don't like it enough to do it for pleasure more than once or twice every couple of years though. Well, maybe I'm not much into activities but there certainly must be things I like. I like certain people and certain types of food to be sure but that is true of everyone and I'm pretty sure if my body didn't need food I wouldn't bother to eat. Music is ok, I listen to it sometimes. I'm not one of those people though, you know who they are, who genuinely like music. I don't like television, I'm pretty sure on that one. Sports are sometimes fun to watch, but again they are more of a diversion than anything. So essentially I don't think there is anything that I really actually genuinely like. This makes it somewhat hard to make decisions regarding my future. In my defense though I can identify things that I don't like. Most of my decisions end up being based on not doing those things. This is not to say I'm perpetually sad, just perpetually confused.
On a lighter note Braut Burgers are back in Totally Takeout and Andu likes to get naked.

Men still suck [Sep. 27th, 2004|08:17 pm]
[Current Music |Freddy Jones Band - In a Daydream]

Feel free to answer

"Have you ever gazed into the eyes of a complete stranger and fallen in love? Have you defended an absurd idea? Do you feel joy at new discoveries? When you are ready, do you drop everything and go on a long-dreamed adventure? Are you willing to commit a few unexpected acts of folly? Or are you afraid to weep over past sorrows? Or plod daily to class? Or hold back from a new adventure? Have you ever spent time trying to play a role that others have chosen for you? Reflect on two of these moments -- one from the first four questions and one from the last four questions. How did they shape your dreams? How did they make you feel? Do you believe you have made good choices though these experiences? How does reflecting on these type of expereinces prepare you for your personal journey?"

I have to do writings on crap like this every week for ANR101. It's getting really old.

Also today my FCE teacher said that, regarding cohabitation before marriage, "women see it is a trial marriage and men see it as free sex and housekeeping." Don't fight over this, I just wanted to share it because I was again in disbelief and it is just my opinion she is extremely gender biased and that's all I'm trying to show.

I am probably a chauvinist [Sep. 22nd, 2004|09:28 pm]
My FCE teacher has made a point several times to say stereotypes are bad. I would assume this would refer to all stereotypes but I guess male stereotypes don't count. She has said on different occassions that males are more abusive, more likely to promote gender stereotypes in their children, more close minded, and today to top it off she said that while women see love as the most important thing, men "see sex as more important than love." Not only does she not apologize but she follows that up by saying "you don't have to write that down, it's common knowledge." Then procedes to make a crack about how women fall into love and men fall into sex or something like that. Let me just say I take offense. I suppose it would have been slightly different if she had said most men(which she didn't) but nevertheless she is not only condemning men but is also simultaneously promoting a negative gender stereotype. I am left wondering who these male sexmongers are having sex with? It couldn't be women seeing as they value commitment, love, and sanctity and are made of sugar and spice.

Unsettled Idiot [Sep. 13th, 2004|11:42 pm]
I feel like puking, for two totally unrelated reasons.
1) My stomache hurts like a mother fucker(might be the water)
2) The thought of voting for someone whom I don't really agree with simply to oust someone whom I don't agree with more is a little unsettling.
2.5) Also, the thought of voting for an idealist like a Ralph Nader or somebody else with whom I do pretty much agree with would perhaps jeopordize the chances of the previously mentioned lesser of two evils and is also unsettling.

Also today I realized how much of an idiot I truly am. I was reading a flyer for a part-time job and at the end of the flyer was the guys name, Will. Will Train. Odd name but I've seen odder. It wasn't until a few minutes after reading the flyer that I realized I am an idiot.

Pert Plus [Sep. 9th, 2004|08:12 pm]
Accidently hit Kevin in the nuts with a football the other day while playing catch. I laughed so hard I broke the button off my pants but I sewed it back on. I had to pay $28 to sign up for some online homework thing for econ. I have to sign up for an online personality test soon too for $15. $430 for books + $50 for additional course packs + $45 for online shit = teachers are dicks. The gouging never ends. I found out today that it is abnormal to shampoo your armpit hair. Who knew?
